Carmen DO, returning to the roots of winemaking

1 de October de 2017

Carmen DO is the name of Viña Carmen’s new range of wines, born from a deep search to return to the roots of winemaking. The dream behind this project is to surprise with simple, different, unique and recognizable wines, given the greater sophistication that consumers demand nowadays.

With the DO range, Carmen seeks to innovate with different varieties and terroirs, vitalizing the vineyards with the aim of showing the grape in its maximum expression, without any intervention in the winery, also rescuing the work with small producers, who usually have vineyards of very high potential.

“This project was born from an idea of making wines in a more artisan way, rescuing the origin of the grape, varieties and traditional winegrowing areas of our country. It also seeks to strengthen the relationship of the wineries with small national producers, who have been working their own vineyards for many years”, says Emily Faulconer, chief winemaker at Viña Carmen.

These wines, only sold in exclusive specialized stores and restaurants, are elaborated in very small batches, between 600 to 1,000 bottles, in order to better control different variables, such as the harvest and its handmade winemaking process, which seeks to intervene as little as possible.

The Carmen DO line, which is introduced today in the Brazilian market, consists in the following varieties: Quijada # 1 Semillon 2016, Melozal El Bajo Portugais Bleu 2016, Matorral Chileno (Syrah, Cinsault and Viogner) 2016 and Loma Seca Cinsault 2016. Each wine has a limited production, with the aim of keeping the quality and exclusivity of the product under control.
