Awarded 93 points, the esteemed American publication placed Viña Carmen’s icon wine within the most outstanding of its vintage, while the Gran Reserva label earned 92 points —the highest score given to a Chilean Carignan.
Viña Carmen continues to strengthen its position as a benchmark of Chilean winemaking, earning two important accolades from Wine Spectator, one of the world’s most influential wine publications.
In its most recent report on Chile, Carmen Gold 2022, the winery’s top wine, received 93 points and was selected by critic Aaron Romano among the Top-Scoring 2022s from Chile. Sourced from Alto Jahuel, in the heart of the Maipo Valley, this wine is an exceptional reflection of the Andean terroir and a challenging vintage marked by cool, dry conditions that allowed for slow and balanced ripening. It was described by the publication as:
“Pepper and cassis notes fold over onto blackberry and plum flavors. A gentle push of acidity lifts everything and carries it onto the finish.”
This recognition reaffirms Carmen Gold’s place as one of the great red wines of Alto Maipo, crafted from a rigorous selection of Cabernet Sauvignon parcels in Alto Jahuel, and with a long-standing history of consistently expressing the identity and excellence of its origin.
Meanwhile, Carmen Gran Reserva Carignan 2023 received 92 points, the highest score for a Chilean Carignan in this edition, and one of the best-rated Carignans globally. Sourced from bush-trained vines planted in the 1950s in the dry-farmed interior of the Maule Valley, specifically in Melozal, this wine is a true expression of a unique origin; with granitic soils offering ideal water retention and drainage that contribute to the vibrant character of the variety. The wine was described by Wine Spectator as:
“Deeply aromatic, with orange peel, clove and singed bay leaf accents melding with a taut core of sage-accented dried cherry and currant.”
These accolades reinforce the strength of Viña Carmen’s portfolio and its ongoing commitment to quality, tradition, and innovation.
