Double Gold for Viña Carmen at the Sakura Women’s Wine Awards

Carmen Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2021 was the wine that received the highest recognition in the completion. Also, Carmen Discovery Reserva Carménère 2021 received Gold Medal.

February, 2023. Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards, one of the most popular wine competitions in Asia, recognized Carmen Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2021 from Viña Carmen, Chile’s first winery, with the highest distinction. It also awarded Carmen Discovery Reserva Carménère 2021 with a Gold Medal.

Carmen Gran Reserva Chardonnay 2021 is from Limarí Valley in Chile and stands out for its pale yellow color, presenting distinctive citrus notes on the nose, such as peach and green apple. The palate is delicately structured, persistent and balanced, supported by its characteristic minerality.

Carmen Discovery Reserva Carménère 2021 is from the Rapel Valley and is a deep red wine with intense aromas of black fruits such as blueberry and blackberry accompanied by notes of pepper and bitter chocolate. The palate is juicy, with soft, elegant tannins and a long, fresh finish.

Sakura Japan Women’s Wine Awards is a competition that aims to find wines that go well with Japanese home cooking”, “increase wine consumption” and “promote women working in the wine industry”.

This year the competition received a record 4,652 entries from 25 countries and its jury was composed of 430 women who blind tasted and evaluated the various labels.
